The election was tough – with the entire Central government, BJP chief ministers, Central agencies, election commission, Central forces, hostile media & vile social media on one side, and Mamata Banerjee’s track record on the other. The election theme was largely drawn on the slogan ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay’ (Bengal Wants Her Own Daughter). The idea of the trend was based on this very theme. After this victory, Mamata Banerjee was poised to lead the next Federal government at the Centre and her grassroots political movement was soon to make headway into other states.

Today, Mamata Banerjee is more senior than the senior-most parliamentarian in Lok Sabha. She has a 40-year parliamentary career. She has been a 7-time MP, Union Minister under three PMs (PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh), and 3-time Chief Minister of West Bengal.

On June 1, 2021, the ‘India Wants Mamata Di’ (IWM) took to all social media platforms as a wider campaign with a huge number of volunteers joining in to take the message forward. Soon enough, there were volunteers from every nook and corner of Bengal. This required a formal shape as a social media community. 

The IWM community is a volunteer-driven community where there is no interference from any ‘powerful persons’ and hence, the members could express themselves freely and take the mission forward. They could realize their full potential and tirelessly strived to establish the community in various states.

The IWM community is a highly democratic platform for Didi’s supporters with a proper organizational structure and regular Presidential elections. Weekly virtual meetings are held to listen to the ideas of the volunteers. Mass propagation of the developmental stories of Didi’s government and exposing the Modi government’s failures has almost become a part of the daily chores of every IWM member. As they say, motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going.

Today, the small group of friends has developed into a huge network of volunteers who carry out activities in a disciplined manner, with the shared goal of having our beloved leader lead the nation.
